Abstract: Integrated use of surface and sub-surf ace water resources is necessary to meet the growing need of the country. Planned and economical utilisation of groundwater resources has .assumed added importance due to limited resource, increased demand and shortage of energy. Normally, a farmer draws groundwater from either a dugwell or a tubewell. The principal' means of exploiting the groundwater is the tubewell by an electric pump or a diesel pumpset. It has larger capacity and therefore saves time and human labour to supply a required quantity of water to the cultivated fields. Efficient perfor-mance of a tubewell requires proper design and selection of pumping set for which proper guidance has to be provided to the farmer. A matrix has been prepared to guide a farmer for selection of pumpset for given depth to watertable and capacity of tubewell....
