Issue Date: 1990
Abstract: Seepage control- measures are required to protect a dam from any undesirable or dangerous effects of seepage occuring through the dam itself or through the foundations or abutments. The measures adopted may or may not reduce the seepage quantities, but formost, the measure Should minimize the risk of failure from instability of slopes, from foundation heave or from piping by erosion or by a combination of these. Internally, most embankments require some form of seepage control, either to improve stabitity or to control piping or both. There are three basic methods for controlling seepage 1. Use of filters to prevent piping and heave 2. Seepage reduction and 3. Drainage....
