Abstract: | In present days load shedding due to shortage of generation & limitation on transmission capabilities etc. has become a very common feature in India. But it is creating a lot of inconvenience to the consumers and is affecting the development of the country. This is due to either non-planning or bad planning of the power system. Out of the many aspects of power system planning, the generation expansion planning is the most important. Because without adequate generating capacity the demand with appropriate quality and sufficient reliability can not be met. On the other hand, if generation facilities are expanded randomly irrespective of the demand, a big and scare capital may remain as an idle investment causing shortage in other sectors. This will also cause high cost of genoraLion, thereby un- necessarily over taxing the consumers. Also the gestation period for a generation facilities is very large being in the order of 5 to 6 years...... |
