CONSTRUCTION PLANNING AND SELECTION OF EQUIPMENT - - FOR CIMANUK PROJECT, (INDONESIA)

Abstract

In 'devwlaping countries, river basin development project are very important to meet the demand, of irrigation, hydroelectric power, flood control, drinking water storage, fisheries and others. The object, of construction planning on any project is to extract maximum productivity from the equipment using minimum effort and sums of money under constraints of resources available and maintaining a sense of well being within the organization. Construction planning of a big project is very complex and complicated whore the quantities of the material= to be handled are very Large such that it is beyond the capability of the human Labour to cope with, while the time available for completion is short and sometimes critical. In such cases, the use of mechanical equipment is wholly justified. There may be.., some parts of works that can be accomplished by manual labour or by combination of both manual labour and machines. Thus, the magnitude of the project wil dictate the use of mechanical equipment. instead of manual labour, and will also determine the size and quantity of the equipment selected. The proper =election of equipment for a project is of vital importance for its speedy and economic completion. vi Use of mechanical equipment offers many advantages, specially when the nature of work is difficult. for human labour to cope with, and also when time is the essence of construction activity, but without proper selection, theme advantages may not be obtained. Improper selection will not only cause ineffectiveness and uneconomical operation but also sustain loss of the advantages offered by mechanical construction and the equipment may deteriorate very fast. The government of the Republic of Indonesia would be constructing one big project i.e. Jatigede Multipurpose Dam situated in Sumedang Regency, West Java Province. This project will be built to increase the area under irrigation, generate more hydroelectric power and provide flood control, drinking water storage, develop fisheries and recreational needs. This project is managed by Cimanuk Project, Directorate of River, under Directorate General of Water Resources Development, Ministry of Public Works. Beside this project, as part, of the Second Stage of the Cimanuk River Basin Development. Project the Jatigede Irrigation Area would be developed, Based on pact. experiences the magnitude of Jatigede Irrigation Area is considered as a large project and the construction is complex and complicated. Therefore, a proper, efficient and suitable construction planning and =election of equipment are very important. In this study all aspects of selecting and planning construction equipment for Cimanuk Project have been covered.
