| Abstract: | Embankment dams can be constructed on any types of foundations available at site,. Observations have shown that percolation and internal erosion (piping) in the foundation of the dam have been the most frequent causes of deterioration or failure of earth dams. This dissertation mainly aims at the studies of foundation problems and their remedial measures under embankment dams in general. An attempt is made to include all different types of foundations in detail in Chapter one. The second chapter discusses the problems in rock foundations and the diffferent types of treatment such as grouting, stripping and surface treatment. Problem of embankment dams on pervious and clayey foundations and their solutions have been discussed in chapters three and four respectively.... |
