Abstract: The present investigation covers the analytical and experimental study of prestressed concrete members subjected to cyclic loading. Response of single degree of freedom system for prestressed concrete structures has been obtained for two actual recorded earthquake excitations namely Elcentro earthquake of May 1940 and Koyna earthquake of December 11, 1967. This response was compared with that of elasto. plastic and bilinear systems. Actual load-defelction curve of prestressed members should be considered in the analysis for earthquake excitation. Ductility ratio and reduction factors have been obtained for prestressed members for various time periods and damping. The load deflection curves for prestressed members are also obtained experimentally from testing of beams under cyclic load. The hysteretic curves reported here are seen to be some-what different than those found by other investigators. The damping characteristic of prestressed concrete is also studied experimentally.
