dc.description.abstract | In this dissertation an attempt has been made to analy se and investigate the behaviour of a doinic al shell foundation for circular tower like structures. A.n exact analysis is given which is applicable to a spherical shell loaded with axi-symmetrical or anti-symmetrical loading. The general shells of revolution are expressed in the form of first order differential equations which are numerically integrated by Runge-Kutta fourth order pros 3 ss computer programme has, been developed for this numerical integration, The results of both cases viz axi-symmetrical and anti- symmetrical loading thus o btaa_ned can be combined to give the trapezoidal typo of loading usually assumed under a foundation of tower-shaped structures. To investigate the behaviour of domical shells as foundation one reinforced concrete model of spherical shells was constructed and tested to destruction for. symme-trical loading, The experimental results are compared with the analytical results obtained from the bending analysis of shells with axi- symmetrical loading and useful conclusions are drawn. | en_US |
