With the easy availability of digital computer, mathematical models for simulation of groundwater system are becoming increasingly popular over the past decade as compared to other types of models. A mathematical model using Integrated Finite Difference Method is developed for a two layerr aquifer system. The model- has been used for studying the effect of various parameters on the computed heads of the two layers. For this purpose Salawa area was selected. The Salawa command area covers an area of 42,699 Ha. Surface irrigation supplies to the area are provided through left Salawa distributary and its branches. Left Salawa distributary takes .off from Upper Ganga Canal at a chainage of 107.2 km. Groundwater is also utilised substantially for irrigation purpose through a large numbers of private tube wells, state tube wells etc. The aquifers in the area are formed by sand layers, which are occasionally interspersed by clay bands. Up to a depth of 30 m, the aquifers can essentially be considered as unconfined. However, aquifers extending from 30-100 m are of semi-confined to confined category...en_US
