Abstract: Good management of water has always been recognized as an important component of successful irrigation all over the• World. Irrigation water is considered as prime limiting factor in crop production. Sound operation or an irrigation system is a pre-requisite for optimum use of irrigation water. Quite often many irrigation systems have failed to deliver the promised goods to the maximum possible extent. This can be ascribed to unscientific operation, inadequate micro-distri-bution system, faulty water distribution methods, improper irrigation scheduling etc. These shortcomings have been responsible for the widening the gap between promise and performance of projects. With the above consideration in mind, a case study has been undertaken for 'Anjunem Irrigation Project, Goal. An evaluation has been done on the working of the existing system of the operation alongwith the infra-structure available for water distribution. Criteria for evaluation of the project are as under: 1. Whether the project is fulfilling the planned objectives. 2. 1) Irrigation utilisation ii) Timeliness of water and flexibility of irrigation system.
