dc.description.abstract | The analysis and design of spillway piers becomes complex due to a variety of factors such as the three dimensional behaviour of the piers under different loads, abruptly vary-ing cross section along its height, eccentric loading conditions, heavy loads transferred from the gates and a curved profile at its base. In addition, it has also to take care of the impacts generated by the moving loads transferred by the bridge and support the bridge itself. The responses of the pier subjected to an earthquake excitation will also be three- dimensional and therefore the analysis and design of the spillway piers located in seismically active zones need special consideration. | en_US |
