dc.description.abstractThe Tiloth Power Station having an installation of 3x30 MW is located_in District Uttar Kashi of Garhwal in upper reaches of Bhagirathi river, a Himalayan river. All the three units of power station were commissioned in November/December 1984. Dur-ing initial run of 2000 to 4000 hrs. of operation, the units got seriously damaged and had to be closed down in .July. 1985 for major repairs. Unpresidented silt abrasion encountered at this power station has thrown a big challenge before power Engineers of the country and endangered the exploitation of valuable vast hydro electric potential abailable at all such locations in the upper reaches of Himalayan rivers in the country.
