Betwa is the mightiest river of Sundelkhand region having catchment area of 46580 s a.km . and traversing p artyly' through Madhya Pradesh (194 km) partly through Uttar Pradesh (225 km) and forming boundary between `A.P. and U.P. for a distance of 145 km. It rises in claisen district of Madhya Pradesh and after traversing 564 km., it joins river Yamuna in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Several storage type irrigation and hydropower schemes have been taken up for utilisation of the water resources of the basin. Raj ghat multipurpose project (1755 MOM live storage) is a major irrigation cum hydropower (45 MW) project being construc-ted in the district ;una of M.P. and Lalitpur. of U.P. and is proposed to be completed by the year 1992. Lined canal net work is under construction stage. The project is a joint venture of M.P. and U.P.!'overnments. In upper 3etwa. b asin .(upstre,3m of A aj ghat multipurpose ~rojoct) water balance study has been done to study water uti-lisation. Monthly parameters such as moisture availability index, potential evapotranspiration deficit, soil moisture and ground water depletion after monsoon season have been found out. Soil moisture recharge (170 mm) -occurs in the month of ,rugust and its depletion is mainly dependent upon its use by crops dur-ing October to April. f=round water recharge is 47,54 and its depletion is mainly resulting into fair weather flow of the river....en_US
