Title: EFFECT OF FOUNDATION EXTENT ON GRAVITY DAM DESIGN

Issue Date: 1987
Abstract: The pattern of stress distribution and deformations in the dam foundation system are of great concern in the case of gravity dam. Any change either in dam or founda-tion would definitely effect the both. While assessing the stresses of dam body and foundation, the designers is always being confronted with the problem of fixing the extent of foundation beyond heel and toe of the dam that should be represented in the analysis to get the correct values of deformations and stresses in the system. Or at least he should be aware of the margin of error being incorporated by considering a certain extent of founda-tion in actual analysis so that he can think of connect-ive measures more precisely for provision in the system....
