Abstract: The Krishna Irrigation Project (south Maharashtra) comprises of two storage reservoirs (Dhom and Kanher) and five main canals in the CCA of 74000 ha agricultural *land in Satar.a and Sangli districts. Dhom storage dam on Krishna river and Kanher storage dam on Venna river and its lined canal network are al-most complete and the irrigation is already commissioned. The Dhom and Kanher dam will also supply water to Arphal command area after completion of canal network as well as to 4dai and Karad industrial towns downstream. The Krishna Irrigation Project has been selected for model study of irrigation water management as 'It involves (i)partly independent operation of the two parallel storage schemes, (ii)water demand for irrigation, municipal and'industrial use, (iii .)consideration of operation stage data of Dhom and Kanher command, as well as planning stage data of Arphal commands and (iv)cropping pattern study with respect to project design crop patter..
