Title: RIVER BASIN PLANNING -A CASE STUDY

Issue Date: 1986
Abstract: The planning of the Choshui River Basin in Taiwan (ROC) for hydropower, irrigation and water supply has been attempted using a linear programming model. Each subsystem's model is formulated based on a defined objective function and a set of system constraints of continuity, physical, and policy. The inherent nonlinearities of the cost functions of dams, tunnels, surge tanks, forebays, Denstocks and pmwer houses have been linearized through separable convex or*- gramming. The effective head, which is a nonlinear function of the storage of reservoirs, has been accounted for through an iterative process.
