dc.description.abstractIn hydrogenerator barrel foundation, blockouts and openings have to be accommodated within the foundation] as functional consideration demands. Incidence of load is also somewhat different. Therefore, stress determination in such a structure is vet ,complex. Only three dimensional analysis taking all the features into account can be a rational approachs in contrast to the conventional design systemi where two dimensional approach is the mainstay of the design so far, In this dissertation; a 3 finite element program has been prepared, tested and stress analysis of barrel foundation, on ,account of machine load have been attempted. The main theme iehind the work to study 3u D stress distribution and of feet of providing opening within the foundation. The results reveals that development of stresses are very low order and emparatively high stress concentration near opening. To establish conclusive inference of the present study and suitability of the r thor for practical design applications this study needs Air her extension and refinement,en_US
