Authors: Mekonnen, Geremew
Keywords: WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT;SMALL HOMOGENEOUS EARTH DAMS;SOIL TYPE;EARTH DAMS
Issue Date: 1985
Abstract: Indian Standards Institution is drafting a code of Practice for 5 meters, 10 meters ano 15 meters high embank-ment dam sections; with a view to give recommender design slopes for direct use by Field Engineers. It is with a view to recommend slopes of small dam sections as based on soil properties, th,,t this study has been taken up. The available literature was screened for soils type and design parameter values. On the basis of the literature survey, the design values for cohesion • (C) and anLj1e of shearing resistance (0) have been worked out. V.ith the aid of computer programme the stability analysis has been carried out for $base ailui.e' as well. as, 'toe failure' conditions using Fellenius and bishop's Simplified Methods. The factor of safety value, for d.iii-e..rent slopes under 'different conditions have been worked out, and finally, design slopes have been recommended
