dc.description.abstract | Introduction of canal irrigation may create waterlogging problems in its command which may adversely affect the land resources. The remedial measure is either provision of drainage or lining of the canal. .part from conventional method of "horizontal and vertical drainage, vertical drainage through energy plantation is a new venture which is very common in Australia and Russia. In this method the energy required for draining the water by tubewell. is supplied by the energy required icy the transpiration of the plant. In the present study a mathematical model has been developed to find out the performance of forestration (energy plantation) in lowering water table in the aquifer by the side of the canal. With an area of 600 x 10 m2 the maximum reduction in water table position is of the order of 0.122 m when the transpiration rate of eucalyptus at 2 m x 2 m spacing is 0.225 m3/month/m2. | en_US |
