Abstract: The purpose of this dissertation is to identify, discuss, and analyze problems of seepage through earth dams that may arise in all projects. When earth dams fail, the consequences; are likely to be great loss of life and great property damage because of the sudden release of a large volume of water, often with little or no advance warning. About one—quarter of the failures of the dams and reservoirs are caused by seepage problems, which indicates a high level of uncertainty in the design of seepage—control measures. This serves to emphasize the importance of analyzing seepage and designing effective measures for its control...
