Issue Date: 1967
Abstract: The problem of buckling of arches resting on continuous elastic foundation or discrete elastic supp-orts is studied herein and numerical results are obtained for certain cases. Mostly the work has been concentrated on circular arches resting on uniform elastic support and subjected to uniform radial load. The solution for the case of discrete elastic supports of equal stiffness has also been suggested. The buckling of a parabolic arch subjected to uniformly distributed load along the span and resting on uniform elastic medium has been investigated numerically by means of finite difference method. The treatment is based on the deflection theory of arches but assuming inextensional deformations at the instant of buckling.
