Issue Date: | 1984 |
Abstract: | The thickness of gravity floor of a barrage is quite often found to be large, In such a case difficult problems of excavation and dewatering within a short working season are generally encountered. Besides, the foundations for piers have to be taken deeper aggravating the problem. In such situation raft foundation may be adopted as a substitute for the gravity floor. With less floor thickness and piers mono-lithic with the floor, the problems of dewatering and excavation are brought down to manageable limits. The structural behaviour of the raft is superior to a gravity floor as the raft can with-stand relatively large differential settlements and seismic forces.... |
