RELIABILITY OF CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT

Abstract

Reliability engineering is a new field introduced in the late 1940s. Yet consideration of the consequences of a failure of a system is as old as the factory system. 'fit) the advent of large, sophisticated construction equipment to cater to the needs of the present day projects, the concept of reliability has assumed additional dimension. This dissertation covers the essentials of reliability engineering applicable, to mechanical equipment such as construction eouipment. Chapter one gives an introduc-~ tion to the field of reliability engineering and chapter two gives in a concise form mathematics involved in obtain-ing reliability values, mean time to failure etc., when the failures follow popular distributions. Chapter three deals with the evaluation of reliability function by fitting hazard rate to various models .
