Issue Date: 1984
Abstract: Well foundations are very commonly encountered compo-nents hf barrages, bridges and lately for certain industrial structures also. They are expensive and time consuming s truc -Ftures to construct. In view of the wealth of expertise available for sinking the, well foundations, they are popularly in use, Eventhough, well sinking is.. an ancient art practice in this country, the topic has not received much attention. Very few research investigations are available in present day state of art. As such, the estimation of sinking resistance is by and large based upon thumb rules, field experience, empirical formulae or simple expression using earth pressure coefficients developed for plane strain condition. Precise. estimation of sinking resistance is essential for, planning the well sinking operation to economise the cost of construction. Hence, there is a need for method of analysis which can provide better estimation of sinking resistance....
