Abstract: | Hydraulic turbines basically are water gels, eyo1u_ tion of which dates back to pre-Christian era. At the beginn- ing of the Christian era the water wheels were coming into use for driving mills in the North East. The Chinese flora or float wheel built of bamboo with woven paddles is still in use, alongwith other forms of current wheels elsewhere. Such devices have a very low efficiency and utilise a small part of the power available in a strewn. The undershot breast, and overshot wheels were great advances, in that, water was confined in a channel, brought to the wheel and utilised under a head or fall. However the development towards modern concept of water turbines took place in the beginning of nineteenth century. In 1824 a French Scientist named3urdin designed a water wheel with guide mechanism and it was the first machine named as turbine.... |
