Abstract: River diversion, one of the foremost activities in water resources project construction, often has a direct bearing on the completion schedule as also the financial aspects of the project. It is, therefore, essential to investi-gate the various aspects involved in river diversion arrange-rnents for arriving at a judicious decision. The, main factors that govern the choice of the type of diversion arrangement are ; the river flow, topography and the geology of the diversion site In view of these relatively un-deterministic factors involved, a set approach to the problem cannot be arrived at and, as such, the solution is generally site specific. The main components of any river diversion arrangement may consist of tunnels and/or open channels, cofferdams/bunds in suitable combinations.
