dc.description.abstractThe Sunsari-Morang Irrigation Project, 25 years old, is located in the eastern region of tarai of Nepal. The irri-gation has brought prosperity to the local people. Still it is possible to expect better pay offs- in terms of increased agricultural production through better management. Need for creation of additional irrigation potential is called for in addition to utilization of the potential already created with proper land, crop and water management. An effort has been made in this dissertation to study and evaluate the performance of the existing irrigation system and to suggest measures of improvement. The water and land po-tential, cropping pattern., canal network., water management, drainage problem, consumptive use of surface and ground waters and operational measures. have been discussed.. Modernisation of the project has been found to be necessary for which various measures have been recommended...en_US
