Abstract: Classical earth pressure theories of Coulomb and Rankine for static case and of Mononobe •-Okabe for dynamic case consider force equilibrium conditions only and neglect moment equilibrium condition. Hence, they fail to predict pressure distribution. prakash and Ba savana proposed a method for obtaining static and dynamic earth- pressure distribution considering all the three conditions of equilibrium. However, some of their as sump tions do not appear to be reasonable. The numerical method proposed by Joshi and Prajapati overcomes this difficulty. However, the assumed pressure distribution, though in agreement with equilibrium conditions is not unique. Be-sides, none of the st methods detect and eliminate the computa-tion of dynamic earth pressures larger than the passive pressures that can be mobilized at a given depth below the fill level. As such, there is a need for a better method of analysis for obtaining earth pressure distribution.....
