In India now there exists a wide gap between the created and the utilised irrigation potential'. Most of our irrigation projects work at low efficiency. However, attention is now being paid to the water management problems below the outlets where the created potential is actually used and also the losses of water are maximum* With a view to identifying the operation and management problems, a study on evaluation of water use pattern was taken up in the Janjokhar Minor Command on Left Salawa Distributary system and has been presented in this dissertation, This has brought out the merits and shortcomings of the water use sub-system'. The study has indicated that though the supply is adequate, ' the system has not reached its expected efficiency to meet the demand of crops at proper growth stages.. Suga-estions for improvements have been made..
