Title: EFECT OF UPLIFT AND SEEPAGE ON THE STABILITY OF MASONRY DAM
Authors: Srivastava, D. K.
Keywords: WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT;SEEPAGE;MASONRY DAM;GRAVITY MASONARY DAM
Issue Date: 1984
Abstract: A large number of gravity masonry dams constructed in Indie; in recent past have developed excessive seepage and uplift which may lead to instability. In the present dissertation an effort has been made to evolve a method to accurately find the uplift pressure, velocity and discharge at different regions of the dam and its foundation. An effort has aLso been made to find the body forces developed at various region of the struc-ture due to pressure gradient and then to find out the resulting stresses. The method used is the finite element method employing computer program. The effectiveness of thr method has been tested by taming up the case study of Barvi dam of Maharashtra. This dam has been analysed for different drainage condition and varying water levels in tho reservoir.
