Abstract: There are many facets of improved water use efficiency. From plant breeding to increased food output per unit of water uptake, to reducing the losses from the tertiary irrigation conveyance systems. The losses in conveyance system are appre-ciably high and every effort should be made to preclude these losses and bring about its improvement alternative for maximum crop production. This thesis is an attempt to establish and to determine the need for and to carry out a programme to improve the ter-tiary irrigation conveyance systems. Topic covered include evaluating and diagnosing problems in the present channel systems., proposing and testing solutions to the diagnosed problems, combining the solution techniques into improvement alternatives, evaluating the improvement al-ternatives and developing the organizational set up necessary to carry out the improvement programmes.
