Issue Date: 1983
Abstract: A considerable amount of water is lost in soepago' from the unlined canal. It is estimated that seepage losses are approximately 17 percent for the main canal and branches, 8 percent for distributaries and 20 percent for the water courses, which aggregate to a loss of +5 percent of water entering the canal head. The necessity of lining irrigation channel is not therefore be over emphasised. Lining of canal is. based on the economic analysis of its annual cost and benefits. The benefits include reduced seepage ,loss, reduced water logging, lower operation and maintenance cost..
