The need for design and fabrication of seismic transducers in our country has long been felt due to heavy expenditure incurred and difficulty experienced on the import of such small but important instruments of utmost necessity for experimental study in earthquake engineering and related fields. A genera-lized theory of seismic displacement transducer design as veil as the principle and pros and cons of most of the existing displacement transducers has been given. A linear variable differential transformer type fiveismic displace-pent pick-up has been found to be the most suitable for design and fabrication. The performance of the fabricated pickup is discussed in detail.en_US
