dc.description.abstract | A river basin is the most rational region for purpose of planning the utilisation of the water resources. This study has attem ted to determine th. most desizable conf iguration for the Baitarani Basin of Orissa along with determining the sizes of the proposed developments. Attempt has been made to determine the optimum sizes of reservoirs for serving the purpose of irrigation and-hydropower- generat.on. Three reservoirs of importance have been considered for the system analysis. Maximi- sation of net ben its ro es-ndp.r h en the has objctive.A Screening model Lbeen formulated for the basin. in order to account for the large, fixed costs associated with reservoirs and pow hou, mixed integer programing is used instead of the usual lincar programming. The model is sensitive, to the costs and benefits. The most single critical parameter which is subject to large varia-tion in future is the price of electric energy. Analysis has been done for Various energy prices to obtain alternative sttegies. | en_US |
