The performance of a sluice way stilling basin under submerged conditions has been studied experimentally. Baffle blocks of USBR type having two different heights have been used at different locations in the experimental part of the study. Results of the investigation concerning the discharge characteristics of the sluice gate under submerged conditions in the presence of the blocks and the drag force experienced by these blocks over a wide range of pertinent variables are reported. The study has shown that the discharge coefficient is the same under free and submerged f lows with and without blocks. Further the drag force on baffle blocks under sub-merged conditions is the same as under free f low conditions. Using these ideas predictors for solving practical sluice flow problems under submerged flow conditions have been developed.en_US
