Title: BEHAVIOUR OF SANDY SOILS IN TRIAXIAL COMPRESSION UNDER HIGH CONFINING STRESSES

Abstract: Studies by many researchers on behaviour of granular soils under high confining stresses indicate that predic-tion of strength characteristics of these soils by extrapo-lation from results of conventional triaxial compression tests (at low to moderate confining stress of about 10 Kg/cm2) will lead to considerable error on the unsafe side. Thus, it is essential to know the behaviour of cohesionless soils under actual field loading conditions where high confining stresses may be involved, as for example in high earth and rockfill structures, or under heavily loaded foundations......
