dc.description.abstractAn attempt has been made to study, both theoretically as well as experimentally, the density currents in reservoirs and how best could they be ejected. A review has been made of the available literature on the subject and field and laboratory studies carried out at various places. Studies carried out in a tilting flume and a comprehensive three dimensional model of Matatila Reservoir have been described in detail. These studies broadly suggest the outlines for further studies. Perhaps the real solution to the problem of sedimentation of reservoirs lies in training the density currents, keeping them alive in their passage through the reservoir and finally ejecting thrm out through outlets, spillways or otherwise. The subject offers a vast scope for further studies both in the field and the laboratory.en_US
