The consequent need for efficient maintenance planning can, therefore, not be. overemphasised. The management has to introduce procedures, by which the maintenance of equipment can be carried out efficiently and effectively in order to achieve maximum economical production from the equipment, with minimum breakdowns . The procedures and models in maintenance of equipment are discussed in this dissertation for achieving the overall economy of maintenance and enhancing. the life of equipment. The essential requirements for an efficient maintenance programme like planned scheduled maintenance, inspections, repair or overhaul with minimum waiting, and scheduling of available resources have also been discussed. The optimisation of profit by deploying the equipment is the main aim of any management. The use of system models to achieve this objective could be an effective mode. This dissertation includes discussion of some of the system models for main-tenance to achieve the objective of efficient maintenance programme.
