Hydraulic structures like aqueducts, super-passages, syphons etc* are often required whenever water courses, artificial or natural, cross each other. Zn such accessions it waul.d be advantageous, if the section of the canal or river is constricted to affect economy in canstruoticn. Also some times it becomes necessary to change the bed elevation of the canal or drain. Such changes if made abruptly would create unfavourable hydraulic conditions and may endanger the structure event in addition to severe hydraulic losses. Therefore contracting and Expanding transitions are necessary to gradually guide the flow whenever such changes take. place, in ardor to maintain good hydraulic conditions. The des tgn of such transitions calls for a careful approach since an efficient transition will mintnise the losses and would result in a higher elevation for the channel which would mean larger command area if it is an irrigation canal and larger head on the turbine if it, is a power canal.....en_US
