Title: OPTIMIZATION OF LINING LENGTHS OF FIELD CHANNELS
Authors: De, Sanjib Chandra
Keywords: WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT;LINING LENGTHS;FIELD CHANNELS;SEEPAGE LOSS
Issue Date: 1980
Abstract: ,It present, the general thinking in the country is that by lining the f i =ld. channels, considerable amount of water can be saved. However, the economics of lining depends upon many factors such as seepage loss, the use factor of the channel, discount rate, and the uses of water saved, by lining. . mathe-matical model for study of economics of lining length of field channel is discussed. with a case study. The study has indicated that the optimum length of lining primarily sensitive to seepage loss rate through un-lined channel, period of operation of channel and type of lining. It has been found out that earth lining has an edge over conventional brick lining because it being cheaper and thus gives an indication that while selecting kind of lining to be adopted to a particular project, all alternatives of lining should be considered.....
