Abstract: A'study for optimal use of surface and ground Waters in Gomti Kalyani Doab has been made this year. In this dissertation a detailed evaluation of the social costs and benefits of the conjuctive use of surface and ground watcv s has been made. The market prices of resources and outputs do not indicate the real worth reflecting the social pre--ferences due to market imperfections. Therefore accounting prices have been evolved for the various resources and used in the analysis. Accounting prices have been used for human labour, bullock labour and resources like fertilizers, plant protection chemicals, diesel and electrical energy. The objective of social cost benefit analysis is to estimate the true socio--economic impact of the project. The results thus obtained have been compared with the results based on conventional analysis.
