dc.description.abstract | In recent years there has been a substantial increase in the utilization of groundwater resources accompanied by a growing awareness of the need to understand the behaviour of groundwater. The equat-ions describing the flow of groundwater are reasonably simple but their solution by known analytical methods are difficult dui: to the complex boundary ar other conditions usually encountered in the field. Numerical methods are therefore often employed to develop a model for simulating flows in a real system. In this dissertation, a digital computer mathema-tical model of the groundwater reservoir of Gomti-Kalyani Doab in Uttar Pradesh has been developed adopting the finite difference technique. Calibration of the model was done by using historical data of ground-water levels. The model was then used for predicting water table elevations upto May, 1983. The model has been developed and verified for the particular case of a stream-aquifer system. Its basic components are, however, quite general and the model may be suitably modified for simulating flows in similar groundwater..surface water systems. | en_US |
