Abstract: The thesis presents a crop planning model as applied to Gomti Kalyani Doab based on linear programming. Crops and crop calendar chosen for analysis are consistent with the existing cropping pattern in the area. Water requirement of various crops have been worked out using multi crap fixed yield model and making use of Irrigation water production function. Inputs for the crops have been considered as per optimum requirement's and the net returns from various crops have been worked out correspond-ing to maximum production level based on published reports. Various computer experimentation has been made using various technological, socio—economic and agronomic constraints, to arrive at an optimal cropping pattern for the area. Results of various computer runs have been analysed in detail to know the adequacy of the capacity of the delivery system and possibility of enhancing the overall crop intensity. Merits and demerits of models used have been discussed especially in water deficient conditions. The canal capacity in this case is known and the monthly diversions required are decided by the models. Sensitivity analysis has been carried out to know sensitivitiness of the various cost coefficients used. • Suggestions to make the study more realistic are mentioned.
