Year after year more and more irrigation projects are coming up, but the anticipated azicultural production goal are not being attained., This is mainly due to the lack of knowledge on the modern concept of water use and integrated on-farm development. The farmers even do not have the idea of consumptive use of water for the crop. Therefore a study on water requirement of major crops viz Rice, Wheat, Sugarcane, Maize and potato has been done and the available literature on the subject has been. presented in consolidated and systematic manner. The attempts made at other places to demonstrate the advantages of integrated development in reference to irrigation and drainage and its management have also been and put up scientifically with a view that some such suitable arranmement may be divic.ed to suit to this country, A Case Study of Pakhrauli Pilot project has been made in order to through a light how the efficiency of the system can be improved by taking due care for irrigation and drainage,en_US
