In harnessing the water resources the quality of the water plays an important role for its purposeful use. Generally water is harvested by constructing dams and reservoirs in river basins. As the water is impounded for a fairly long time from its storage to its use, the quality of the water undergoes some changes , which are beneficial in some respects, and detrimental in others. To cope up with the problem of the harmful effects of the stored water preventive and corrective measures are ne-cessary at different stages. The various measures to u n-prove the water quality are broadly discussed in this study. Mathematical modellings for prediction of the likely water quality, so that the remedial measures re- quired can be initiated at the planning stage are also briefly reviewed..en_US
