Thermo-mechanical treatment on Al-Zn-Mg-Ag alloy is found to have a definite beneficial effect on the maximum hardness attainable. This effect is more pronounced at 4C°' cold work when combined with a preageing for two hours at 1650 C foUoorod by reageing at 1650 C. Time to reach peak hardness is also beneficially reduced by this treatment as +angered to that of conventional ageing. Step-ageing treatment which include a preageing at 165° C, substantially reduce the time to reach peak hardness at lower reageing temperatures$ and suppress overageing at higher reageing temperaturesen_US
