Abstract: Sediment control in artificial channel is one of the important problem in hydraulic engineering, Today, there are a number of irrigation systems over the world where silting of canals is causing problems and annual silt clearance in volves large expenditure attended with frequent canal clo-sure s causing losses in crop production. Various devices are used in such channels to effectively control sediment entry, depending upon the quantum,, and grade of sediment. This dissertation reviews the sediment control devices in arti: ficial channel with special reference, to Eastern Kosi Main Canal. Eastern Kosi Main Canal (Left bank canal.) takes off from Hanurnannagar barrage on river Kosi in Bihar and has a design discharge of 15,000 cusses (424.5 cumecs).; The canal was opened first in 1964. Inspito of silt excluders provided at tho headworks, the main canal continued to silt heavily year after year causing reduction in its discharging capacity, In 1971, a silt ejector was constructed 2250 ft. (685.m)down~- stream of the head regulator. Even thereafter, the canal continues to silt heavily., The sediment problem of this canal, measures taken and their cffectivonoss has boon dis.= cussed in the dissertation,
