dc.description.abstractThe world's energy crisis have focussed the attention of the nations towards geothermal energy. The developments in this field so far taken place in the yDroduction ,end utilization are outlined. Exploration and evaluation of the geothermal resources have been briefly discussed along with the types of resources mentioned in the respective Chapter. The utilization of geothermal energy will be largely for the generation of electric power. Mineral extraction, fresh-water production, or the use of the resources for prodess or space heating, although of potential value, will generally be limited to special occurence or circumstances. Therefore, a few relevant aspects of planning and designing of geothermal power plant are discussed in the respective chapter. Development of the technology for the vapor —turbine cycle will permit the development of liquid dominated resources of intermediate—range temperature, has been discussed in the Chapter 'Types of Geothermal Power Development'. Electric Power produced from a geothermal field appears to be economically competitive with that from conventional fossil—fuel stations have also been brought out separately. Corrosion control and maintenance & operational problems have also been discussed briefly. The possibility of developing geothermal power in India are outlined and lastly the future scope of research for the development of geothermal resources are briefly reviewed.en_US
