Network analysis is a sophisticated procedure for planning ion the :construct/of .major projects. Though this system is used mostly for the control of the project time, its suitability for the control of the construction cost has not been recognised much. Cost control, like the time control is a major aspect of the con-trol of the work. Network techniques can successfully bring both time and cost into a single integrated system. This dissertation is an attempt to use the network techniques for the control and monitoring of the construction costs. Chapter-1 explains the need and management process for effective project planning. Chapter.-2 describes the suitability of the application of the network analysis to the projects. The nature of construction costs are described in Chapter-3. In Chapter-1-, cost optimization studies, both by conventional and mathematical models using a linear programming model for an actual project have been explained. Chapters 5 and 6 deal with the financial planning by the network analysis and mchni-toring and controlling cost of work in progress respectively. A brief description of PERT/COST and probabilistic aspect of cost control has been made in Chapter . 7 and B. The work is concluded by analysing the results of the studies made for the optimization as well as monitoring and control of cost in Chapter-9.x The studies for optimization of cost and for preparing various cost reports were computerised on IBM 1620 Computer available with S.E.R.C., Roorkee. The computer print-outs of the results for the studies are given in the appendices..en_US
