dc.description.abstractAs there is not enough information about the corrosion behavior of basic type of electrodes in the international welding literature, some experimental investigation has been carried out to study the corrosion behavior of Low Hydrogen Basic type E7018 type of Electrode. It has been found in corrosion handbook that welding by Basic type of Electrode i.e. E7018 electrode is very corrosive in nature (almost 3 times) as compared to Rutile type of electrodes. To minimize the corrosion rate 2%, 3%, and 4% of Ni powder has been mixed in flux coating of three E7018 Basic type of electrode in the expense of fluorspar. And it was found that as the Ni content was increased: • Increase in Low temperature toughness, • Increase in Tensile strength, • Small reduction in % elongation • Decrease in silicon content • An increase in diffusible hydrogen as the Ni content increased but fulfilled ASME Sec IX requirement. • Grain refinement • Improved corrosion resistance Thus the results were found optimum and can be used to extrude the electrode for improved corrosion resistance.en_US
