Very little work has been done on passive earth pressure problems and no work is reported to have been done earlier for measurement of paeeive resistance of call. under dynamic conditions. Present study is confined to measurement of pry seive pressure of sand under dynamic condition. A 30 cm steel wall Is translated into a back rill of sand contained in a bin 200 x 100 x 7 cm . The bin Is capable of being e c ited at different accelerations and frequencies. The coefficients of passive pressure are computed from test results. The rupture wedges * assuming plane slip surfaces are also studied by observing the emergence of rupture line on the sand surface. The average Xp value at dynamic condition is found to be lower than the Kp value at static condition. Experimental rupture wedges are found to be smaller than the theoretical, rupture Wedges.en_US
